Most of us are aware that the modern Western diet falls some way short of nutritional perfection. Too low in fibre, too high in fat, salt and artificial additives, it is little surprise that Britain has become the most constipated nation in the world.
Slow passage through the intestine means
that there is a large volume of undigested
food fermenting in the colon, releasing
poisonous gases which leak into the
bloodstream and adversely affect organs,
joints and immunity. A healthy transit time
for food though the body is 24 hours, but
in the U.K. it is on average 60 hours for
men and 70 hours for women. It is no
coincidence that Britain has the highest
incidence of bowel cancer worldwide,
with 20,000 new cases being diagnosed
each year, or that bowel problems account for 1 in 3 visits to the G.P.
